Lead Hazard Reduction Grants

The Minnesota Department of Health received funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide grants to residents in southeastern Minnesota to fix hazards like lead paint and other safety issues in owner-occupied and rental homes. The goal of the program is to reduce the risk of lead poisoning in children by increasing the amount of lead-safe housing, especially for households with children under the age of six. Eligible applicants receive a free in-home assessment to identify lead paint and other safety hazards.

Eligibility requirements
- Owner-occupied or rental home was built before 1978 and is in one of the following counties: Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Winona.
- Owner-occupied units must have a pregnant person or a child under age six residing or regularly visiting the home.
- Rental homes without a pregnant person or a child under age six residing or regularly visiting the home may be eligible and are encouraged to apply.
Income limits apply and vary by county and number of people in the household.

General Contractors needed
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Lead Hazard Reduction Grant is seeking General Contractors to bid on lead remediation projects in Southeastern Minnesota. Work is performed in Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha and Winona counties. In addition to the Minnesota Department of Administration Requirements per contract, contractors must have:
- A current MDH Lead Firm Certification.
- At least two MDH lead licensed individuals (minimum of one MDH Licensed Lead Supervisor).
- A minimum of one EPA Certified Renovation, Repair and Painting licensed individual.
