STI Statistics - 2024

28,312 STI cases were reported to MDH in 2024 compared to 31,105 cases in 2023 – a 9% decrease.

  • Chlamydia remained the number one reported STI in the state with 19,703 cases reported, a 9% decrease compared to 2023.
    • 58% of the cases occurred in teens and young adults ages 15 to 24.
    • One in three cases occurred in Greater Minnesota, with at least three cases reported in every county in Minnesota.
  • Gonorrhea remained the second most reported STI in Minnesota, with 7,131 cases reported in 2024, an 8% decrease compared to 2023.
  • Syphilis cases decreased 9% from 2023 with 1,478 cases in 2024.
    • While new infections continued to be centered within the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the presence of syphilis among females continues to be of concern.
  • Congenital syphilis cases increased 11% in 2024 with 29 cases reported.
