Cytomegalovirus and Congenital Cytomegalovirus

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus. Anyone at any age can get CMV, and most healthy people don’t show any signs or symptoms or know they have been infected. If you are pregnant and have a CMV infection, the virus can pass to your growing fetus. When a baby is born with a CMV infection, it is called congenital CMV. Some babies born with CMV may have health concerns at birth or that develop later.
