HAI Prevention Projects and Partners

MDH is engaged with numerous partners in the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) across the continuum of care.

  • MN HAI Prevention Advisory Group
The Minnesota Department of Health, Infectious Disease Division convened a multi-disciplinary Advisory Group (referred to as the Minnesota HAI Prevention Advisory Group) to establish statewide HAI prevention leadership.
    • Minnesota Action Plan for the Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infections (PDF)
The Minnesota HAI Prevention Plan, based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention template, identifies activities that will ensure Minnesota's progress towards national prevention targets as outlined in the HHS "Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections." Updated January 2019.
  • HAI Prevention Collaboratives
MDH, in partnership with the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA), established two HAI Prevention Collaboratives to address Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and surgical site infection (SSI) among acute care hospitals in Minnesota.
    • Safe from CDI Toolkit/Roadmap
This two-tiered intervention approach (core and enhanced) includes four topic areas: early recognition of patients with CDI, isolation precautions, environmental cleaning and disinfection, and antimicrobial stewardship.
    • Safe CUTS (SSI) Toolkit/Roadmap
This document provides evidence-based recommendations and standards for MN hospitals to develop SSI prevention programs. Written with elective, in-patient surgery in mind, it can also be adapted for use in other settings such as ambulatory or emergency surgery.
