Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Registry

About the TBI Registry

Minnesota maintains a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI) registry through the Minnesota Department of Health.

This registry has two goals:

  1. To collect data to understand and support injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services.
  2. To connect people who have had a TBI or SCI to resources and services to support their recovery.

Our goal is to make sure every Minnesotan impacted by a brain or spinal cord injury has the support to heal and thrive.

What Injuries Are Included?

The registry includes TBI and SCI among Minnesota residents who are treated in designated trauma hospitals.

The registry does not include:

  • TBI or SCI treated in Veteran Affairs or Indian Health Services facilities
  • Injuries treated in outpatient clinics
  • Self-treated or untreated TBIs
  • Injuries treated in community or non-clinical settings, such as schools or correctional facilities

How are people connected to services?

Anyone who has had a brain injury or TBI can access services—regardless of how their injury is reported. We believe every healing journey deserves support.

You can be connected to services by:

  • A referral from your hospital
  • Self-enrollment
  • Outreach from MDH via email, text, phone, or mail
