Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injury

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is caused by a sudden blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain.

Traumatic brain injuries can be mild or severe, and can affect how a person thinks, feels, moves, communicates, or acts. Some TBIs heal over time, while others can cause lasting problems.

The Minnesota Department of Health tracks TBIs in Minnesotans to better understand and prevent TBI. MDH also connects people who have had a TBI to resources and services to support them.
