This list of requirements for licensees is not comprehensive. Licensees need to familiarize themselves with the Minnesota Radon Licensing Act Rules and ANSI/AARST Standards for the work they are doing and follow those requirements.
Radon measurement professional and radon mitigation professional
- Current quality assurance (QA) plan. If you use the MDH QA plan template, you can check if you have the latest version of the forms page.
- Continuing education certificates.
- Test devices used (any changes to what is listed on previous license).
Radon mitigation company
- Worker's compensation insurance or exemption.
To renew a license, individuals are required to complete the following amount of continuing education approved by MDH:
- Measurement Professional License: 8 hours.
- Mitigation Professional License: 12 hours.
The Indoor Air Unit offers Minnesota specific radon classes online at the MDH Learning Center. These classes are free and available to take at your convenience. You will need to create a username and password to enroll in MDH Learning Center courses. Certificates and a record of classes taken will be available on the website under your username.

Licensees are responsible for uploading completion certificates or a copy of their MDH Learning Center transcript with their applications.
MDH also offers radon specific in-person training periodically. Course announcements are emailed to licensees prior to these offerings.
Licensees can take CEU courses from outside providers. Classes approved by NRPP and NRSB are automatically accepted.

Licensees can request MDH approval of continuing education courses that are applicable to their radon work, such as radon, safety and HVAC. The MDH review process requires reviewing course materials including presentations and videos.

MDH has approved American Ladder Institute's Ladder Safety Training for 1 hour CE credit. To receive credit for the class, you must complete at least 2 modules and submit both completion certificates with your renewal application. The modules cover stepladders, single extension and telescoping ladders, articulated ladders, and mobile ladders stands and mobile ladder stand platforms.
Renewal applications are due at least 30 days prior to license expiration. Failure to submit renewal applications in a timely manner may result in a lapse of license. Applications are completed online through the radon licensing system. Documents are to be uploaded through the radon licensing system. No paper applications will be accepted.
Fees are the same as the initial licensing.
Applicants must submit:
- A completed online application through the radon licensing system.
- Proof they have completed continuing education requirements.
- A list of measurement devices they will use.
- A copy of their QA plan for measurement if different than previous application.
- A non-refundable license fee payable by e-check, credit card, or debit card through the radon licensing system.
The application process is the same as renewing a current license except for continuing education requirement.
Radon measurement professionals, must do on of the following:
- Complete 8 hours of continuing education for every year or part of year that the license is lapsed. If license expired on 12/31/2024 and a renewal application is submitted 12/31/2025, then the total of 16 hours of CE is required.
- Retake the initial radon measurement professional course.
- Retake and pass the initial radon measurement professional exam.
Radon mitigation professional, must do one of the following:
- Complete 12 hours of continuing education for every year or part of year that the license is lapsed. If license expired on 12/31/2024 and a renewal application is submitted 12/31/2025, then a total of 24 hours of CE is required.
- Retake both the initial radon measurement professional course and the radon mitigation/specialist course.
- Retake and pass both the initial radon measurement professional exam and the radon mitigation professional/specialist exam.
