Foundational Public Health Responsibilities (FPHR) Community of Practice

Join the MDH Foundational Public Health Responsibilities Community of Practice to build understanding of Minnesota's foundational public health responsibilities.

The FPHR Community of Practice will provide regular opportunities for public health leaders and practitioners to learn about, discuss, and resolve questions related to the elements of the foundational public health responsibilities framework, including how the framework is organized, definitions and activities related to capabilities and areas, incorporating foundational responsibilities into current public health work and practices, and other topics as they arise.

Format and meeting dates

The community of practice meets virtually on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Please contact Linda Kopecky in the MDH Center for Public Health Practice (linda.kopecky@state.mn.us) for meeting links and calendar invitations.

  • Starting in May 2024, each meeting has focused on one foundational responsibility, discussing its scope, range of activities, areas of confusion or complexity, and how to operationalize it. There will be time to share burning questions or topics. This opportunity is for both public health directors and staff.
  • The membership will determine needs and desires related to learning, problem-solving, or researching elements and aspects of foundational responsibilities.
  • This group will be peer-led, with members defining its scope, their common purpose or mission, how the community is defined and structured, and what elements are part of its practice.
  • MDH will facilitate meetings and center local public health voices, needs, and experiences.
  • Note: MDH will continue to share all information related to foundational public health responsibilities and the FPHR Grant with CHS administrators and PHN directors via the CHS-PHN email list.

Who should join?

  • To start, local public health directors, CHS administrators, planners, and anyone working on foundational public health responsibilities can join the FPHR Community of Practice.
  • Members will ultimately determine scope and appropriate membership.
  • To join, contact Linda Kopecky in the MDH Center for Public Health Practice (linda.kopecky@state.mn.us)
