Community Health Services Mailbag: Jobs, Events, and General Information

Submit a Post Subscribe

The Community Health Services Mailbag and Calendar—commonly called "the Mailbag"—is a weekly email bulletin of information submitted by and for local, tribal, state, and community public health in Minnesota.

MDH sends the Mailbag each Wednesday, and posts are due by 7:00 AM each Tuesday.

There will be no Mailbag sent on Dec. 24, 2025.

The Mailbag provides a coordinated, non-duplicative, emailed source of information for local public health professionals, including announcements, virtual/online events, tools, resources, and jobs.

This free service is designed with the following Minnesota audiences in mind: SCHSAC members, CHS administrators, public health directors, local public health staff, MDH staff, and friends of local public health in Minnesota.

Types of open positions appropriate for readers include:

  • Community health worker
  • Health educator
  • Health administrator or supervisor
  • Environmental scientist or specialist
  • Epidemiologist
  • Health planner, researcher, or analyst
  • Licensure, inspection, or regulatory specialist
  • Mental health counselor
  • Public health educator
  • Public health nurse
  • Public health nutritionist
  • Public health program specialist
  • Public health planner

MDH discourages you from submitting jobs not directly related to public health, like IT or administrative support. It's unlikely these kinds of staff subscribe to the Mailbag, and you'll have better success posting those jobs elsewhere.

If you have questions, please contact the Center for Public Health Practice at health.mailbag@state.mn.us. Please do not submit posts to this email address, but instead use the "submit a post" button above.

Who can submit information to the Mailbag?

Anyone can submit information for inclusion using the online Mailbag submission form. Please note: We reserve the right to edit your submissions for length and content. We also reserve the right to exclude submissions.

When does MDH send the Mailbag? When are posts due?

MDH sends the Mailbag to subscribers each Wednesday. Please submit posts by 7:00 AM each Tuesday.

How long will my post run in the weekly emails?

MDH will include your post in weekly emails as follows:

  • Events: Until the date the event takes place, or until the date of the first day of a multi-day event
  • Jobs: Until the date the job closes, or for one month for open-ended job posts and job posts with far-future close dates
  • General information: For one month

You do not need to re-submit your post for inclusion for each week's Mailbag during the period it runs.

If you've submitted an open-ended job post and would like it to run again after two weeks have passed, please re-submit the job or contact health.mailbag@state.mn.us.

Who receives Mailbag emails?

A summary of the week's CHS Mailbag and Calendar postings is emailed weekly to people who subscribe via GovDelivery, from local/tribal/state public health, academia, community organizations, and health care organizations, as well as interested individuals. This list currently has over 9,000 subscribers.

How can I see past Mailbags?

Contact the MDH Center for Public Health Practice at health.mailbag@state.mn.us to access past editions of the Mailbag.

How is the Mailbag formatted?

The Mailbag is mostly plain text to make sure it reads well in all clients and applications. This means that your submission will not retain bullets or numbers, bold/italicized text, or line breaks. Please keep this in mind when you're submitting your post, and make your post easy for readers to digest.
