Minnesota Partners in Public Health Conference
Breakout Session Request for Proposal

Generally, we selected sessions that:

• Last either 60 or 75 minutes.
• Fit with the conference theme and address a public health hot topic (we encourage applications from different areas of public health work).
• Make significant contributions to professional development for state, Tribal and local public health leaders.
• Include a participatory element during the breakout and apply to a mix of learning styles.
• Share promising strategies and best practices.  
• Provide practical skills and tools for participants.
• Depict creative programs and services.
• Demonstrate innovative ideas and solutions.
• Impart new information.
• Highlight success – recognizing innovation and celebrating practices that are working.
• Include the voices of community partners, Tribal partners, and those with lived experience.
• Speak to at least one of our public health foundational responsibilities. 

The 2025 breakout sessions were categorized into the following four tracks:

1. Workforce issues and leadership development
2. Communications
3. Partnership and collaboration
4. Health Equity 

Workforce issues and leadership development

Session topics included but were not limited to:

• Communicating effectively as a leader  
• Staffing: Employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention  
• Conflict management and boundary setting  
• Leadership styles and strategies in uncertain times
• Promoting well-being and supporting mental health in the public health workforce 

Communications

Session topics included but were not limited to:

• Effective messaging - both internally within organizations and externally to the public  
• Communication strategies, campaigns, and best practices  
• Communicating with diverse audiences  

Partnership and collaboration

Session topics included but were not limited to:

• Highlighting innovative or nontraditional public health partnerships  
• Building relationships with disadvantaged populations  
• Working with community partners  
• Coalition building  
• Building for the long-term and fostering resiliency
• Conflict management and boundary setting  

 Health equity

Session topics included but were not limited to:

• Ways to incorporate health equity into your current program area
• Overview of a program or project that successfully connects an underserved community to public health
• Strategies to identify health equity gaps in communities  
• How to evaluate a program’s effectiveness in reaching underserved people or communities
