Nonfatal Drug Overdose Dashboard

It is important to look at data for hospital-treated nonfatal drug overdoses to get a full picture of how drug overdose is impacting Minnesotans. The goal of this dashboard is to provide the public with data that will help them better understand which people are experiencing nonfatal drug overdoses, where they are happening, and the impacts on their communities.

For important details on the data, how to navigate the dashboard, and other helpful information, please visit the Nonfatal Drug Overdose Dashboard Guidance (PDF).

For a more accessible version of this dashboard, please download this document of accessible tables (Excel).

Please do not use the race/ethnicity data from the Nonfatal Drug Overdose Dashboard at this time – we discovered a data quality issue and are working with our partners on addressing the problem. The dashboard will be updated with the corrected data as soon as possible.

Data from this dashboard includes Minnesota residents treated for nonfatal drug overdose at Minnesota and North Dakota hospitals.

Drug categories are non-exclusive. All drug overdoses are suspected overdoses.

A limitation of the data source is that drugs suspected to be involved in hospital visits are often self-reported by the patient or determined by presenting symptoms at the hospital. Toxicology tests are not usually run for these patients to determine the specific substances involved. This limitation means that drug category-specific findings should be interpreted with caution.

Please reach out to health.drugodepi@state.mn.us with questions related to the dashboard or with any additional data needs.
