Our mission
Minnesota’s Healthy Teen Initiative aims to decrease risk factors and increase protective factors associated with teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among the state’s most vulnerable youth populations.
Our program goals
Decrease the rates of STIs among teen ages 15–19 by implementing high quality, medically accurate, evidence-based and informed programs with middle-school age youth.

Minnesota's Healthy Teen Initiative (HTI) (PDF) is federally funded through the Family Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) Sexual Risk Avoidance Education Grant Program (SRAE).
For 2021-2022, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) received $692,524 in federal State Title V Sexual Risk Avoidance Education funds to support the Healthy Teen Initiative. This program aims to decrease risk factors and increase protective factors associated with teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) for Minnesota's most vulnerable youth populations.
Minnesota's Healthy Teen Initiative targets its SRAE funding to reach populations experiencing the greatest disparities in teen pregnancies and STIs through the implementation of high quality, medically-accurate, evidence-based and informed programs to promote healthy youth development, abstinence, risk avoidance, and to delay the onset of sexual activity in youth 10-19. In addition, the HTI implements evidence-informed programs that reach parents of youth 10-19, and adult mentors that interact and/or work with youth 10-19.
