MOHASC at the Minnesota State Fair

Superheroes Unite Against Superbugs

Protect your health by using antibiotics only when needed

volunteers at the Minnesota One Health Stewardship Collaborative state fair booth Step into the Eco Experience Building at the Minnesota State Fair (Aug. 21 – Sept. 1) and explore the world of antibiotic stewardship at the Minnesota One Health Antibiotic Stewardship Collaborative (MOHASC) booth.

Discover how we keep antibiotics working for people, animals, and the environment:

  • Learn how antibiotics help us—and how overusing them can create scary superbugs.
  • Find out how tossing meds in the trash (or worse, down the drain!) can pollute Minnesota’s lakes and rivers.
  • Meet real-life experts from human, animal, and environmental health ready to share their super-knowledge!

Fairgoers can help fight superbugs and keep our water clean:

  • Sign our antibiotic stewardship pledge.
  • Try your luck at the “Question of the Day” and get your BINGO card stamped.
  • Grab a “Superheroes Fight Superbugs” temporary tattoo and show off your support.
  • Snag a magnet that reminds you to “Take it to the Box”—the safe way to dispose of leftover meds!

Pro tips:

  • Our booth is on the north side of the building by the big garage door and next to the giant bagnado!
  • Pick up a bingo card at the information desk, interact with the booths in the Eco Experience building, and win a fun prize when you get a BINGO!

Steps to prevent antibiotic resistance

  • Prevent infections through handwashing, vaccination, and food safety.
  • Recognize that antibiotics do not work for viral infections like cold or flu.
  • Ask your health care provider how you can get symptom relief without antibiotics.
  • Tell your health care provider and veterinarian that you are concerned about resistance.
  • Never pressure your health care provider or veterinarian to prescribe antibiotics.
  • Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed, and never take antibiotics prescribed for someone else.
  • Never save antibiotics for the next time you or your pet gets sick.
  • Properly dispose of leftover medications at a take back box. Do not throw them away or flush them down the toilet or drain.

Help us promote the “Antibiotics Only When Needed (O.W.N.)” message in your community. Talk to your friends, family, coworkers, and more about this important issue.
